Acoustic mineral wool and acoustic plasterboard
If you wish to buy this solution online we can calculate the materials you need.
This solution provides a better level of airborne sound protection. It is the same as solution 1 except that it adds the SBM5 with an extra second layer of APB19. As with solution 1 it uses AMW100, and high density acoustic plasterboard below the floor boards. Gaps should be sealed between the floor boards using acoustic sealant. The floor will now have five layers of protection. Ceiling, Acoustic mineral wool, 12.5m APB, 19mm APB, and sealed floor boards.
required materials
- APB
- Resilient Tape (on)
- 25 x 50mm Timber Battens (at 400mm centres on)
- 3.5mm Neoprene Pads (on)
- 52mm Acoustic Quilt (between battens)
Installation:
- the room must be cleared as floor boards must be lifted.
- cut battens and nail or screw to joists 50mm from top.
- unpack AMW100 and cut 10mm wider than joist spacing, pack AMW100 down between joists.
- APB and cut to same width as joist space.
- run a thick bead of acoustic sealant along the battens making sure there are not gaps without sealant, and that extra sealant is used where battens join.
- lay the APB into the gap between joists with a little pressure to make sure the sealant bonds to APB and batten.
- Lay SBM5 over the entire floor area, unrolling the mat along the length of the joists using whole lengths. join the SBM5 between joists with 100mm overlap bonding with acoustic glue.
- re lay the floor boards or use quiet board for better soundproofing, making sure to run a bead of sealant along all joints between boards.
- screw down floor boards to make sure there are no movement, creaks or noises from boards.
