Impact Sound - Under Floor Hangers retaining original floor boards

Floor hangers are an excellent system for reducing floor impact and airborne sound while retaining original floorboards. This system allows you to keep the existing floor boards but with minimal (7mm ) raise in the height of the floor. A further layer of 19mm APB plasterboard plank can be added on battens where airborne sound is a particular problem.

required materials

• Resilient Tape (on)
• 25 x 50mm Timber Battens (at 400mm centres on)
• resilient bar
• 3.5mm Neoprene Pads (on)
• 52mm Acoustic Quilt (between battens)
• 18mm APB
• 52mm AMW (beneath joists)
  

Installation:

• the room must be cleared as floor boards must be lifted.
• unpack AMW100 and cut 10mm wider than joist spacing, pack AMW100 down between joists.
• APB and cut to same width as joist space.
• run a thick bead of acoustic sealant along the tops of joists making sure there are not gaps without sealant.
• lay the resilient bars on joists and run a thick bead of acoustic sealant along .
• lay the APB into the gap between joists resting on the resilient bar with a little pressure to make sure the sealant bonds to APB and batten.
• re lay the floor boards or use quiet board for better soundproofing, making sure to run a bead of sealant along all joints between boards.
• screw down floor boards into the resilient bar to make sure there are no movement, creaks or noises from boards.
