Impact Sound - Acoustic cradle system, Replacing Floor Boards

If you're looking to cut impact sound with minimal floor build up we recommend acoustic cradle systems over the tops of each joist. This option will keep to a minimum floor height increase it's typically used where a new chipboard deck is being laid over the joists and a resilient layer is required. It is unsuitable under floorboards as it creates a floating floor.

required materials

• Resilient Tape (on)
• 25 x 50mm Timber Battens (at 400mm centres on)
• 3.5mm Neoprene Pads (on)
• Acoustic cradles
• 18mm APB
• AMW100 (beneath joists)
• quietboard mass optimized acoustic chipboad
• acoustic sealant
  

Installation:

• the room must be cleared as floor boards must be lifted.
• cut battens and nail or screw to joists 50mm from top.
• unpack AMW100 and cut 10mm wider than joist spacing, pack AMW100 down between joists.
• APB and cut to same width as joist space.
• run a thick bead of acoustic sealant along the battens making sure there are not gaps without sealant, and that extra sealant is used where battens join.
• place aoustic cradles on top of joists with a little pressure to make sure the sealant bonds.
• lay quietboard top flooring, making sure to run a bead of sealant along all joints between boards.
• screw down quietboard to make sure there are no movement, creaks or noises from boards.
