6 Acoustic Plasterboard

If speed of fitting and low materials cost is an issue this system will improve the acoustic performance of your floor very noticeably. Using acoustic plasterboard will substantially increase the mass of the floor and this is key to good soundproofing. Sealing the gaps in the floorboards reduces noise transmission through the wooden floor which acts as a reasonable soundproofing material when all the gaps are sealed. The passage of sound, can only be effectively blocked when the floor is sealed and air movement totally cut.

required materials

• PVC acoustic Tape
• 12mm APB
• Acoustic sealant
• hardboard
  

Installation:

• the room must be cleared and existing floor sealed with acoustic caulking.
• lay first layer of APB and stagger joints sealing with acoustic caulking.
• lay the APB into the gap between joists with a little pressure to make sure the sealant bonds to APB and batten.
• lay hardboard top surface, making sure to run a bead of sealant along all joints between boards.
