7 APB Acoustic plasterboard floor system with mineral wool

Acoustic mineral wool is used under the floorboards to give greater sound attenuation. The addition of AMW100 acoustic mineral wool increases airborne sound attenuation by adding a sound absorption layer with high mass damping and absorbtion. This increase work required as two floorboards will need to be lifted every meter to allow access under the floor to fit the AMW100.

required materials

• Resilient Tape (on)
• floor surface hardboard.
• 2 layers 18mm APB
• 100mm AMW100 (beneath joists)
  

Installation:

• the room must be cleared as floor boards must be lifted.
• lift every fifth floor board to allow access for fitting AMW.
• unpack AMW100 and cut 10mm wider than joist spacing, pack AMW100 down between joists.
• replace removed floorboards, and caulk all floorboard joints.
• lay sheets of APB down sealing joints and make sure joints are offset between the two layers and APB is laid across layer below.
• bond the top floor covering with spray adhesive.
• screw down floor boards to make sure there are no movement, creaks or noises from boards.
• make sure all edges are caulked where they meet with skirting boards
