Dampalay™ S20 SOUNDPROOFING

Dampalay™ S20 soundproofing acoustic cell sheet Dampalay™ S20 soundproofing acoustic cell sheet

Introduction

(Formerly Isolgomma) See Isolgomma or Acousticel leaflet for technical details Incorporating the latest changes to the Approved Document E 2003, the minimum and maximum sound insulation requirement for separating floors are as follows:

Airborne Sound Reduction DnTw,w+C;tr Impact Sound Level LnTw
Conversion 43dB or greater 64dB or less
New Build 45dB or greater62dB or less

To comply with the requirements of the Approved Document E 2003, R10 sound insulated separating floors have been tested in accordance with BSEN ISO 717-1997 and BSEN ISO 717:1997. Substituting the 25mm mineral wool floating layer normally specified with a more stable and efficient recycled rubber resilient layer.

10mm thick sound absorbing Dampalay™ S20 nominal weight 3kg/m² is installed onto timber suspended floors as detailed below. Note: Existing or new square edged timber floor should be overlaid with our SBM5 before installing the Dampalay™ S20

With a floating layer of 19mm thick QuietBoard cement impregnated t&g chipboard -placed on top of the Dampalay™ S20 acoustic insulation as shown above, the following test result was recorded:
Airborne DnT,w+Ctr 45dB
Impact L nTw 61dB

WHICH MEETS THE NEW CHANGE OF USE, CONVERSION AND NEW BUILD REQUIREMENTS

For timber suspended separating floors requiring a greater degree of sound insulation, the floating floor can be replaced with two layers of 12mm cement impregnated chipboard as shown below.

Site testing of the above described construction gave the following results:

Airborne DnT,w+Ctr48dB

Impact LnTw 61dB

WHICH MEETS THE NEW CHANGE OF USE, CONVERSION AND NEW BUILD REQUIREMENTS Dampalay™ S20 APPLIED TO CONCRETE FLOORS

Provided the total mass of the concrete is equal to 300kg/m2, the finished structure should be found to comply with the requirements of the Approved Document E 2003 for airborne sound insulation. Impact noise reduction on a lightweight beam and block concrete floor using Dampalay™ S20 resilient insulation and 18mm t&g timber floating floor is detailed below.

Test Chamber evaluating of the above described construction gave the following results:

Impact Ln,w 60dB

WHICH MEETS THE NEW CHANGE OF USE, CONVERSION AND NEW BUILD REQUIREMENTS

This performance would be further enhanced if a floating layer of 65mm sand cement screed is installed instead of the timber floor.

All of the previously described constructions meet the new separating floor sound insulation requirements for both airborne and impact noise.
